Can you get a Brazilian wax while pregnant?

For most people, yes — waxing is topical and does not involve anything absorbed in a way that concerns pregnancy. But your skin behaves differently, positioning gets harder, and your OB or midwife should be the one to sign off. This page is general information, not medical advice.

Talk to your OB or midwife

Ask before you book, especially if you have had any pregnancy complications, if you are on blood thinners, or if you have developed any skin condition during pregnancy. They know your specific situation; an esthetician does not, and should not be the one making that call.

What is different when you are pregnant

  • Skin is more sensitive. Increased blood flow to the area makes waxing noticeably sharper than you may be used to — this is the biggest practical difference.
  • Skin can be more fragile. Hormonal changes affect the skin surface, and varicose veins in the area are more common.
  • Positioning gets harder in the third trimester. Lying flat may be uncomfortable; positions can be adjusted, and it is worth mentioning when you book so time is allowed for it.
  • You may bruise or redden more easily than usual.

If you are waxing before delivery

A lot of people book a wax in the last few weeks. If that is the plan, go earlier rather than at 39 weeks — comfort and positioning both get harder as you go, and skin needs a day or two to settle.

If you have not waxed before, pregnancy is not the ideal moment for a first Brazilian. A first wax is the most sensitive one, and pregnancy raises sensitivity on top of that.

Tell your esthetician

Mention it when you book, not when you are on the table. It changes how the appointment is paced, how you are positioned, and how much time is set aside.

Afterward

The same aftercare applies, with more attention to it than usual: loose cotton, no heat, no workouts for a day or two, and something gentle and fragrance-free on the skin. If you have any concern about how the skin reacts, ask your provider rather than waiting.

This page is general information about a beauty service. It is not medical advice — your OB or midwife is the right person to ask about your pregnancy.

Quick answers

Is it safe to get a Brazilian wax while pregnant?

It is generally considered fine because waxing is topical, but you should check with your OB or midwife first, particularly if you have had complications, are on blood thinners, or have a skin condition. Expect more sensitivity than usual.

Does waxing hurt more when pregnant?

Yes. Increased blood flow and hormonal changes make skin in the area noticeably more sensitive, and it may redden or bruise more easily.

Can you get waxed in the third trimester?

Many people do, but positioning becomes harder and comfort decreases as you get closer to term. Booking earlier in the third trimester is usually easier, and it helps to mention the pregnancy when you book so extra time is allowed.

Should I get my first-ever Brazilian wax while pregnant?

It is not the ideal time. A first wax is the most sensitive one, and pregnancy increases sensitivity further.
